Bring Havan Into Your Home and Life

A Tradition Worth Keeping Close

In India, many families who follow the Arya Samaj tradition used to perform Havan every day. It was a simple, regular part of life — a few minutes each morning to give thanks, recite sacred mantras, and begin the day with a calm and clear mind. This beautiful practice is one we hope more families in Ottawa will embrace.

A Monthly Gathering We Want You to Join

Here in Ottawa, Arya Samaj of Ottawa holds a community Havan once a month at the Hindu Temple of Ottawa-Carleton. It is a warm and welcoming gathering, but only a few people attend right now. We would love to change that. When more of us come together, the experience becomes richer for everyone. Children see their heritage lived out, elders feel valued, and newcomers find a true sense of belonging.

Learn the Mantras and the Process

Havan is not a mystery reserved for a few. It is a practice anyone can learn. Our hope is that every member of our community comes to know the Havan mantras and the steps of the ceremony. Once you know them, you can perform Havan at any time — for a birthday, a festival, a new home, a wedding, or any moment of celebration in your family or society. You do not need to wait for a special occasion or a priest. With a little guidance and practice, you can lead a Havan yourself.

A Weekly Havan at Home

You do not need to perform Havan every single day to feel its benefits. Even once a week is a wonderful start. We encourage families to set aside a little time — perhaps a Sunday morning — to gather, light a small fire, and recite the Havan mantras together. It does not need to be long or elaborate. A simple, sincere practice at home can bring the same sense of peace, gratitude, and togetherness that we feel at the monthly gathering.

Why It Matters for Our Children

Children learn by watching and taking part. When they see their parents and grandparents making time for Havan, they understand that these values matter. They learn to pause, to give thanks, and to think of others. A weekly family Havan becomes a small but powerful way to pass our heritage to the next generation — not through lectures, but through shared experience.

Three Simple Steps to Begin

First, join us at the monthly community Havan and watch how it is done. Members of our community will be glad to explain each step. Second, ask for a copy of the Havan mantras and learn them at your own pace. Third, try a short Havan at home with your family, even just once a week. Start small, and let the practice grow naturally within your home.

Come Forward — We Need You

A community is made strong by the people who take part in it. We invite you to come forward — to attend the monthly Havan, to learn the mantras, and to bring this sacred practice into your home. Together, we can keep the Vedic way of life alive and meaningful for generations to come.
